About me -

Paul Ridley, A Potted History...

Some would say this is the corporate bit, but it is worth a read and as I discover more of our family motoring heritage I will post it here. Future updates will hopefully include Riley Club archive from my Grandfathers days in the club and more Monte Carlo information from the 1930's with regard to my Great Uncles racing career and victories, once my Aunt can find it in the attic... So, me then...

My early career was spent in the field of commerce, banking and financial services until I finally took the plunge into full time Classic, Sports and Performance Car Transport and Car Delivery services pre millennium to maintain my family motoring heritage and provide a much needed quality service to the Classic, Vintage, Sports and Performance Car community that is widely ignored my the majority of car transport companies.

I provide Specialist Car Delivery, Car Transport,  Car Collection and Car Logistics for Classic, Sports and Performance Cars. I am centrally based on the Oxfordshire / Warwickshire / Northamptonshire borders and work throughout the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland offering single vehicle Covered Car Transport or Fully Enclosed Car Transport and Open Car Transport options plus Trade Plate delivery for selected vehicles.

My commitment is to an individual and personal service for likeminded individuals, collectors and enthusiasts alike who I know have been widely recognised as not important enough by larger transport operators. Indeed it is a simple fact that many transportation and "recovery" type operators do not have the knowledge, experience or patience required of the handling of specialist cars as they seem to be geared solely for mass produced "everyday" cars and a "lift it and shift it" operating method. It is well known that much larger "Multi" car transport companies are also usually manned by inexperienced operatives who have little care, regard or experience of the vehicles in their custody.

Such individual service ensures that my knowledge and ability is demonstrated to you at all times with the specialist handling that is required of Classic, Vintage, Sports and Performance Cars and the demands of media production.

I continuously invest in the highest quality single vehicle transportation equipment, notably the continued exclusive use of Tachograph fitted Land Rover Discovery 3 and of new bespoke Brian James car transporter trailers (www.brianjames.co.uk) purchased from and maintained by the factory in Daventry, Northamptonshire including the latest Tri-Axle "Motor Shuttle" totally secure enclosed car transporter trailer and "TT35" Flat Bed.

I am very proud of my company and the service that I provide. The gallery pages clearly illustrate my abilities and achievements attained over the years and are  testimony to "what you see is what you get". Spend some time there and enjoy the cars - pity I have to limit the images to around 1000 ( yes, one thousand... ) - but be reassured that I transported all of them! Paul Ridley -

A Family History...

Several members of the Ridley family, being of Coventry origins since the early 1900's, have had connections with the Motor Industry and Motor Sport for over 80 years. It is because of them that I am doing what I do.

My Grandfather, Charles Vernon Ridley, was an engineer at Triumph, Riley and Lea Francis in the twenties and thirties and, at times, in the post war years for Lea Francis and Riley. He developed the first electric motorcycle, which is currently part of the National Collection and made many studies with his brother into the feasibility of electric traction in road vehicles which was considered very futuristic at the time. To fuel his passion for steam locomotives he started car delivery on a regular basis in 1953 with Frank Hayes, Coventry, to enable visits to engine sheds throughout the UK!

My father until the 1970's worked for Standard Triumph ( where he met my mother ), Jaguar and ultimately British Leyland. He ,until very recently, always drove a British car, including one of the first factory registered Montegos "JOE" in 1984 and one of the last in 1995.

My passion (?) is certainly for British cars - My good lady drives a Jaguar X-Type, I have my Land Rovers and as for classics, well I'll own up to owning two Rover SD1's....

My Great Uncle, Jack Ridley, was also at different times Works Manager for Triumph and Riley in Coventry and drove for Triumph and Riley in motor rallies, particularly in Monte Carlo in the 1930's. Indeed in 1935 Jack had a victorious finish in the 1935 Monte Carlo rally, where he finished second overall and first in the light car class driving a Triumph Gloria 10HP.  He was only two seconds behind the overall winning Renault....

Uncle Jack sadly passed away in December 2006 aged 99, but his motor racing legacy lives on thanks  to a number of enthusiasts around the world.
